Sir Duke tracked leaders, led over 1f out, held on well
New Beginning tracked leaders, took keen hold, stayed on to challenge approaching final furlong, no extra inside final furlong
Birkside held up in mid-division, effort over 2f out, challenged approaching final furlong, kept on same pace
Stretton held up in mid-division, effort on outer 4f out, one pace final 2f
Sporting Gesture chased leaders, one pace approaching final furlong
Robustian held up in midfield, headway on inside over 3f out, one pace final 2f
Maneki Neko led, quickened over 3f out, headed over 1f out, soon weakened
Shake On It started very slow, took keen hold in last, hard ridden, effort on outside over 2f out, soon weakened and eased, tailed off
New Beginning produced an improved effort and went down fighting in second. He should be able to win something similar. The remarkable Birkside, under a 6lb penalty, was beaten less than two lengths into third, which arguably represented a career-best performance.
