Analyis of the race

A race full of horses who looked plenty high enough in the handicap.

HONEY MONSTER was not among those declared initially but was put back in when the race reopened. This was a bold move under his 6lb penalty with the handicapper having raised himjust 4lb on that in future, and he was taking on his elders.

The pace was only steady early, and Honey Monster kicked off the home bend and was always just holding widest-midtrack challenger Yankee Storm.

This audacious win will not go down well with the handicapper and Honey Monster has not looked a sprinter who can win off a mark in the 80s.

Yankee Storm continues to show his liking for the all-weather and enjoyed this return to 6f, as he was edging closer through that extra furlong.

Hammer Of The Gods could never get competitive under a change of tactics, being held up at the back instead of blazing away. The unusual lack of astrong early pace also played against this new method.

Benllech was far too fresh on this return from a 100-day break following his successful sequence, which has resulted in him racing off his highest mark. He was reported unsuited to the Great Leighs surface, which his trainer said was riding deeper than the other Polytrack surfaces.
