Sapphire Prince slowly into stride, held up behind, headway on outer 2f out, nudged along and ran on well to lead inside final furlong
Special Cuvee slowly into stride, soon chasing leader, ridden over 2f out, carried right over 1f out, led inside final furlong, soon headed and one pace
Kheylide chased leaders, ridden 2f out, every chance entering final furlong, edged left and one pace final furlong
Sir Geoffrey restless in stalls, raced keenly, led, ridden just over 2f out, hung right from well over 1f out, headed inside final furlong, weakened last 100yds
Mabait soon bustled along, in touch in rear, ridden over 2f out, no impression from over 1f out
Catenaccio chased leaders, ridden halfway, driven 2f out, weakened over 1f out
Elusive Ronnie slowly into stride, soon ridden along, lost touch halfway
They went a strong pace thanks to Sir Geoffrey taking a strong hold in front, but there was still four in line going into the last 100yds.
SAPPHIRE PRINCE had clearly learnt plenty from a moderate debut effort three weeks ago. Settled off the pace, he was brought widest into the straight and initially looked least likely to win of the four. The picture changed inside the last 100yds as he finished his race strongly, and the further he went, the more impressive he became. As such, he looks sure to get further and he clearly enjoys this surface.
Special Cuvee did not look as happy on the surface and was soon niggled along on the outside of the trailblazing Sir Geoffrey. But he held off the rest well enough and looks to have progressed from his debut, even though that was behind subsequent Chesham winner Free Agent.
Sir Geoffrey paid the price for being too impetuous early but was still not beaten far, while Catenaccio, who is bred to get further, could not muster the pace to land a blow.
Mabait was reported not to have faced the kickback.
