Willkandoo tracked leaders, pulled hard, hampered 5f out, ridden over 1f out, ran on to lead near finish
Desiderio led, clear halfway, ridden and headed near finish
Avertis slowly into stride, soon prominent, outpaced over 3f out, rallied and hung right from over 1f out
Seventh Hill held up in touch, raced keenly, chased leader over 2f out, soon ridden and hung right, weakened final furlong
Titfer chased leaders, ridden 3f out, weakened over 1f out
Hellfire Bay slowly into stride, held up, ridden over 3f out, always in rear
Tamara Moon dwelt, headway to chase leader 6f out, slipped on bend 5f out, ridden over 2f out, weakened over 1f out
Wise Hawk held up, slipped on bend 6f out, always behind
Hawa Khana held up, pulled hard, ridden and weakened over 3f out
The winner had ground to make up on Desiderio all the way up the straight, but he always looked like getting there and eventually mastered the luckless front-runner in the final strides. On this showing he would be worth stepping back up in trip and, although set to run off a 7lb higher mark in the future, he might be able to cope with his new peg.
Desiderio made a valiant bid to make all, but it is possible he was slightly flattered as a number of those behind him were ill at ease on what was a very slippery surface. Nevertheless, he ran a screamer under a jockey who knows him well.
The first three finished a long way clear of Seventh Hill, who does not look handicapped to win at the moment.
Titfer won a very ordinary race last week and, starting here from 4lb out of the handicap, found himself out of his depth.
Wise Hawk was one of those to lose his footing, so his run is best ignored.
