Desert Clover always behind, ridden and struggling 3f out
Smokin Joe took keen hold, held up towards rear, never dangerous
Bartercard steadied start, always last, lost touch 3f out, virtually pulled up final furlong, saddle slipped
TOTALLY FOCUSSED has been in good form on the all-weather and had an excuse last time as the bit slipped. Held up here, he was still well in rear starting upthe straight but got up on the line to snatch the spoils from Willow Dancer.
Willow Dancer raced closer than the winner, sticking to the inner from stall 14. Saleem Golam waited until the courses intersect before going for him against the far railtwo furlongs out, but having looked the likely winner he was just collared. He looks just as effective on Polytrack as turf.
The pair pulled clear of Murrin, who was keeping on, and Phluke, who loves a turning track but has never been as good on the all-weather as he is on turf.
Sister Act, a full sister to Soviet Songand a course-and-distance winner last year, was well beaten on her reappearance and did not show much more here.
However, a couple of places further back Mountain Cat shaped better than his finishing position suggests. He is already down to a markonly a pound higher than when last successful, and he is one to keep an eye on. He has been ridden prominently for all of his four wins, and will be seen to much better advantage when more positive tactics are employed once again. His time is near.
Richard Hughes reported Cupids Glory lost his action.
