On paddock inspection, this looked a decent field and there was much to like about FIREBET, both before and during the race. Although understandably a little green on his debut, he did his job in grand style to assert his superiority inside the last. He must have taken another four furlongs to pull up after the race.
Tepmokea, who showed promise on his debut at York, did little to tarnish that impression here. Whether he was as much at home on this slower ground is impossible to say for sure, but he ran a sound race in defeat.
There was a longish gap to the remainder of the field, headed by Little Tokyo, who again showed ability.
Capo Regime, who lost a fair amount of ground at the start, kept on well in the final two furlongs to be nearest at the finish; this experience won't have been wasted on him.
Damselfly, who showed up well, dropped right away to finish detached in last; something must have been amiss with her.
