Chjimes took keen hold, tracked leader until led 1f out, ridden out
Count Ceprano held up well in touch in last trio, headway well over 1f out, not much room and jostled over 1f out, ran on to go 2nd near finish, not reach winner
Glencalvie led, ridden 2f out, headed 1f out, kept on same pace, lost 2nd near finish
Wavertree Warrior slowly into stride, in touch, ridden and edging left over 1f out, kept on same pace
Royal Island held up well in touch in last trio, headway on outer well over 2f out, kept on but never pace to reach leaders
Cativo Cavallino took keen hold, in touch chased leaders and ridden 2f out, kept on same pace final furlong
Cinnamon Hill chased leaders, ridden 2f out, weakened inside final furlong
Teasing slowly into stride, behind, effort on inner 2f out, weakened over 1f out
His rider was content to let Glencalvie do the donkey work, but he was always perfectly placed and he took it up with a furlong to go. There are no AW races for him in the immediate future, and he will not carry a penalty on turf because he is already significantly worse off in that discipline.
Count Ceprano had run well at Royal Ascot last week over a straight 7f, but holding him up in this small field round a turning track presented a different challenge and after being waited with he was momentarily tightened up when challenging between horses in the short straight. He still managed to just get the better of recent course winner Glencalvie, who ran his race over the furlong-shorter trip.
