Desert Abbey tracked leaders, 5th approaching 3 out, slipped up soon after
The well-fancied Desert Abbey was travelling strongly just in behind the lead when she slipped up on the bend after the third last. Most significantly of all, I Dont Know, who tracked the leaders most of the way, had ranged up alongside the eventual winner jumping the second last. She appeared to jump the flight perfectly well but crumpled on landing and fell a couple of strides later. She looked the likely winner at that stage.
Favourite backers weren't likely to complain as MY VALLEY gained her second win over flights. She travelled well and jumped reasonably most of the way but was starting to feel the pinch when she was joined at the second last. Even when left clear, she appeared to be a tired mare as she jumped the last out to her left and was probably fortunate there wasn't anything a bit closer to her. Not surprisingly, all roads now lead to Galway.
Fantastic Star was no better than mid-division for most of the journey and was never really competitive, but stayed on well at one pace in the straight.
Special Memory made the running but had no extra once headed after the third last. She ran a fair race.
Amy Beth showed a bit of ability as she stayed on from a good bit back tobe nearest at the finish without ever being dangerous. [JOH]
