Reen Princess mid-division, moderate 7th into straight, soon no impression under pressure
Dr Zing soon ridden towards rear, never a factor
Yodollah prominent, soon 2nd, moderate 4th into straight, soon no extra under pressure
Blackisthecolour towards rear, no impression under pressure from soon after halfway
Drummond Forces towards rear for most, never a factor
Sir Ginger prominent, lost place approaching straight, soon weakened
Chesterton showed a bit of ability on his handicap debut. Racing handily, he was chasing the winner when that horse kicked on and he couldn't really respond. He kept on well enough and evidently has enough ability to win a handicap.
Blinkers were left off Alf Tupper today and it did no harm. Always reasonably handy, like the runner-up, he couldn't quicken when the winner did, and againlike the runner-up he kept on well enough at one pace inside the last.
Always On Top was another that was fairly prominent for most of the journey but was only able to keep on at one pace in the straight.
Favourite, Russian View, was prominent early, but lost his place before halfway and never looked likely from over two furlongs out. His jockey later reported that the horse never travelled. He was found to be post-race normal after veterinary examination. [JOH]
