The winner was dropping down in trip after finishing sixth of eight in a Dundalk maiden this month. Her cause wasn't helped by a slow start, as turning for home she had several lengths to make up, but, to her credit, she responded to every call from the saddle to deny Roshina.
The winning rider reported afterwards that she probably resented the kick back on the all-weather first time out and a step up in trip should suit her in time.
Roshina, fourth of five first time out in extremely testing conditions over 5f at the Curragh, took up the running from Call The Law insidethe final furlong. She looked en route to victory until the winner pounced late. This was an improved effort from her, with the better ground and longer trip contributing to the significant upturn in form.
Call The Law performed best of the newcomers and looks sure to learn a lot from this initial experience. The same could be said of Rantavan Wood, who held every chance on the outer turning for home.Rosie The Riveter was pushed along to stay in touch early and never got in a blow, but the big disappointment of the race was the warm favourite Kitchi. She had performed with credit when fourthon her debut in a decent Naas maiden that has worked out well and more was expected, but getting upset at the start did her prospects no favours.
She needed to be hooded after rearing up and, although breaking smartly to lead, she was soon going nowhere and never looked happy when asked a question to maintain that momentum after turning for home. She was eased right down inside the final furlong, when her rider accepted the situation. Her temperament is an obvious concern after this.
