Analyis of the race
A decent renewal of this race in which APHORISM easily reversed placings with Rock 'N' Roller from their meeting here 13 days earlier. Aphorism had hung her chance away last time, and she very nearly did the same again, but her rider managed to keep her straight enough in the last 150 yards to see off course specialist Thewhirlingdervish. Aphorism is reported in foal and is likely to have one more race before being retired to the paddocks in a month's time. She is far from straightforward, but it could be dangerous to oppose her if she is pulled out again.
Thewhirlingdervish, bidding to win the race for the fourth time, turned in a fine effort, but the winner just found another gear in the closing stages to snatch the prize from him.
Mister Arjay had been very disappointing at York last time, but he ran much better here, though he effectively set the race up for Aphorism and Thewhirlingdervish.
Rock 'N' Roller, up 4lb for his win here last time, ran well below his best.
