Tranquil Tiger led, quickened 3f out, soon clear, ridden inside final furlong, stayed on

Dunaskin tracked leaders, driven over 4f out, went 2nd over 1f out, kept on well inside final furlong

Alfie Flits tracked winner, driven over 4f out, weakened over 1f out

Hanella tracked leaders, pushed along over 5f out, well outpaced 3f out, soon lost touch

Lost Soldier Three held up, joined leaders after 2f, driven over 5f out, soon lost place, tailed off 2f out, virtually pulled up

With three defections, two because of the fast ground, this was a rather disappointing renewal of the Listed race. TRANQUIL TIGER was the clear form pick on his win at Newbury in May and second at York later that month, when he had Dunaskin, Hanella and Lost Soldier Three behind, and, enterprisingly ridden over a trip on the sharp side for him, he had his rivals on the stretch by halfway and beaten by the home turn. He idled in the home straight, giving Dunaskin's backers a brief moment of hope, but once Tom Queally gave Tranquil Tiger a reminder the favourite got down to work again and was never in danger. He should win more races at this level on good to fast ground.

Dunaskin usually front-runs, but he had to relinquish that role to TranquilTiger. That probably worked to his advantage, as rather than try to force things, he was able to conserve some energy and finished well to be a clear second.

Hanella was out of her depth and never a factor, while Lost Soldier Three, very disappointingat York last month, ran poorly and has evidently regressed since he was winning in Listed company for Luca Cumani three years ago.
