Red Birr broke well, held up in touch, headway on inside over 1f out, led inside final furlong, ridden and ran on well
Garden Party always prominent, went 2nd 4f out, ridden to lead just over 1f out, headed and not quicken inside final furlong
Blacktoft held up towards rear, hung left when switched right and headway over 1f out, soon ridden, kept on inside final furlong
Under Fire chased leader, led 2f out, ridden and headed just over 1f out, no extra well inside final furlong
Golden Prospect started slowly, held up in rear, ridden and headway over 1f out, one pace inside final furlong
Outer Hebrides took keen hold, in mid-division, headway over 3f out, ridden over 1f out, weakened inside final furlong
Regal Curtsy held up, soon in touch, weakened well over 1f out
Lordship held up, came wide straight, ridden well over 1f out, no response
Feeling led, headed 2f out, soon ridden and weakened
RED BIRR was also dropping back in trip and needed all of it and his rivals conveniently moving off the inside rail to gallop through from last to first in the final 2f.
Trainer Paul Webber said: "He goes well fresh and is a trier but he has not won off this mark of 75 before. He barely gets two miles, so any summer jumping would be at somewhere like Hereford or Stratford."
All this tempers enthusiasm for a follow-up off a higher mark for this ultimately clearcut win.
Blacktoft remains frustrating as a hold-up horse who promises more than he delivers, certainly on turf. He runs too consistently to get much slack from the handicapper and remains readily opposable at this level.
Under Fire made an early move off the home bend to go a length clear, but he ran around on the ground and was swallowed up into the final furlong.
