COUNTRYWIDE CITY was all out to win at the third time of asking. He got a bit upset in the stalls and raced keenly behind trailblazer Bethie. When he kicked on going to thefinal furlong, he looked like clearing away but he was gasping for the line in the final 100 yards. He has little scope and is going to be difficult to place to advantage - not the sort to carry a big weight in a nursery.
Red Rosanna has plenty of speed in her family and lived up to it in finishing with a flourish and if she had not edged right, she might well have won and she also has more scope to be the best of these.
Bethie had not got competitive in three previous runs, so her proximity says it all about the form.
