Completely unsuited by soft ground in the Horris Hill on his final start at two, Fifteen Love also found the ground on the easy side when down the field on his reappearance at Newbury back in April.Aimed at this race ever since in the expectation of getting the quicker ground he needs, he came through strongly from off the pace to edge the result from the far-side ‘winner' Masaalek. He wore cheekpieces for the first time here because he had apparently been working lazily, and the headgear, coupled with the strong pace in this big field suited him. He will probably have to step up to Listed company after reassessment, but he should be able to hold his own provided the ground remains fast.
Masaalek had a 4lb pull with Yaddree compared with when they met at Newmarket last time, and that proved enough to see him reverse the form. A son of Green Desert, he is at home on a fast surface and stayed on well to win his race on the far side. Yaddree had the best of the draw on the far side and confirmed himself a progressive sort. His 9lb rise in the weights for his Newmarket win just found him out, but he is open to further improvement, perhaps over further, as he is by Singspiel out of a Nashwan mare.
Stamina was the worry for Dubai Dynamo beforehand as he is by Kyllachy and had never raced over 1m before, but he saw it out surprisingly well up the stands' rail. He remains quite high in the handicap, though.
Lazy Days only got into the race as a reserve - the first time on-the-day reserves had been allowed in Britain - and he ran a blinder on the far side considering that the ground was probably on the fast side for him. He is open to further improvement and appeals as the type to win adecent handicap this season.
Flawed Genius has gone up 9lb in the handicap this season without winning and, while he reversed Haydock form with Commander Cave and Jaser, the Handicapper appears to be keeping up with him. The same applies to Slugger O'Toole, whose Newmarket win was gained in a tactical race and who has looked held since. He did not see this mile out quite as strongly as one or two either.
Throne Of Power, raised 10lb for his Doncaster win, may have appreciated more cut in the ground, a comment which probably also applies to Perks, but he still finished clear of the rest, headed by the fairly exposed Solent Ridge.
Amazing Star did not run too badly considering that he did not look well handicapped based on his Irish form. The highly regarded Redford won his prep race for this in good style 12 days earlier and was only 6lb higher. He travelled strongly at Doncaster, and that was the case again, as he looked to be going best of the far-side group two furlongs out, but he did not find a great deal off the bridle and was hampered when weakening. This ground was probably plenty fast enough for him and he can return to winning ways on an easier surface.
A rise of 12lb for winning his maiden by five lengths probably did for Rattan's chances, while Commander Cave may also now be high enough in the weights. Virtual is by Pivotal and his good third in Listed company last time came on soft ground, so it was always likely that he would find conditions too quick.
Billion Dollar Kid, Fervent Prince and Thebes found the trip beyond them and will surely be dropped back to 7f or even 6f now, while Fateh Field had a lot on his plate under top weight, and Bellomi may have found the race coming too soon after his Epsom win on Oaks day.
Hurricane Hymnbook was disappointing, though, as he gave subsequent Silver Bowl winner Staying On a race at Windsor on his reappearance, and was well drawn in stall one. He is surely better than this run suggests. Irish Derby entry Love Galore has struggled to get home over 1m2f plus this season and was interesting dropped back to the trip over which he won his maiden at Hamilton last year because while he is by Galileo, he is a half-brother Nell Gwyn winner Lil's Jessy. Having shown early speed, though, he dropped right out.
*Frankie Dettori reported Fateh Field was unsuited by the ground.
*Jimmy Fortune reported that Virtual was unsuited by the ground.
*Patrick Hills reported Fervent Prince reared as the stalls opened. [SE]
