His trainer will see what the handicapper does with him before deciding his next engagement, but the way he stayed on suggests he could get a little further and there should certainly be more races in this scopey individual.
Haasem had finished runner-up in his two starts this season, including when beaten over course and distance at the end of May, and put another creditable effort. He was behind towards the stands' rails but stayed on really well in the closing stages and gave the impression he could be suited by a slight step back up in trip.
Life's A Whirl was soon up with the pace and had her chance over 2f out but hinted she is coming back to her best.
The disappointment was Hasty Retreat, who had won easily on his handicap debut at Newcastle and travelled well for a long way. But, after coming through tolead, he was soon floundering and could have been expected to do better despite a 7lb rise for his win.
Rockfield Lodge made headway over a furlong out but could find no extra on his first run for his new trainer.
