Speed Ticket returned from a longish lay-off having shown promise on his only previous start at Kempton. Always in the thick of things, he mastered Woodcutter at the distance and then readily held the staying-on Crusoe's Return.
The latter stepped up markedly on what he'd shown when beating only one home on his Newmarket debut.
Woodcutter shaped like a real staying type, rallying when the principals had taken his measure. This promising run shows why he was made favourite for his only juvenile start, and augers well for the future.
Hendersyde had shown signs of greenness on his first runon the all-weather. An attractive individual, he wasn't too far behind the placed horses and can improve, while the same remark applies to Optimus Maximus, who at 825,000 euros was the most expensive colt sold at the Goffs Million Sale.
Ibn Qutaiba's run is perplexing. Behind and having to be shoved along early in the home straight, he eventually made inroads into the big gap between he and the principals and finished closer than it looked as if he would under sympathetic handling when the cause was lost.
