RONALDSAY always had the leader in her sights, and her rider Richard Hughes always seemed to have the situation in hand on her. However, when she was taken on by Cosmodrome in the final furlong the race developed into a real dog-fight, and Ronaldsay had to dig deep to get the verdict.
Hughes reported that his filly would benefit from a step up to 1m4f, and connections are keento look abroad to pick up more black type with her later in the summer.
Cosmodrome had won a Listed race early last season but had then been off for ten months and had disappointed on her first two runs back this term. She was stepping back up in trip here (her earlier runs this year were over 1m and 1m1f) and showed the benefit with a return to something like her best form.
But the big disappointment of the race was top-rated Sweet Lilly. She has done her winning at up to 1m and may not have got home in this strongly-run affair, but she never at any stage looked like getting into the argument.
