Analyis of the race

This one-mile handicap appeared to feature a couple of possibly progressive three-year-olds and that looks to be the case with KALIDAHA making it two wins from as many career starts.Having run just the once as a juvenile, when winning at Dundalk last November, Kalidaha had to pass the majority of her rivals when making her challenge under Michael Kinane and after sneaking up the inside rail inside the final furlong, she got up in the final strides to deprive First In Line of victory. This was a decent performance from the winner, who showed a neat turn of foot when asked to quicken by her jockey, and she certainly looks on the upgrade. Her trainer suggested that she may step back in trip to contest the well-regarded fillies' handicap at the Curraghon Irish Derby weekend.

Like the winner, First In Line hadn't been seen since also winning a juvenile handicap at Dundalk last November, but Charles O'Brien's charge was prominent in the betting on his seasonal reappearance.Settled in mid-division on the inside, Fran Berry was forced to come with his run on the outside over 1f out and that switch looked to have paid off when the pair led well inside the final furlong. However, they were caught close home by the winner.

Castle Bar Sling was another aiming to make it two wins on the trotand was also travelling well at the 2f marker but found no extra from that point, while Mid Mon Lady was doing her best work at the finish on what was her first outing on turf.

The Kevin Prendergast-trained Almass was biding for a hat-trickof wins here under top weight but his challenge faltered away after leading the field past the 3f marker, while Mon Zamin, whose last start had seen her beat Tuscan Evening, second past the post in the day's earlier Boylesports Irish 1,000 Guineas, never got involved at any stage during this race before trailing in a disappointing last.
