Hello Man never a factor, behind and trailing after halfway, tailed off

The ground was changed to firm all round following this race, won in good style by top weight SUBTLE SHIMMER. Having tracked the early pace, the ex-Dermot Weld-trained filly quickened well through a gap a furlong and a half out to get to the front, and that move proved decisive in the end as she just about managed to hold off the late effort of the unlucky runner-up. The winner is in foal to Red Clubs, the third winning mare in the last four days to have afterwards revealed to have been in foal. Maybe it's actually time to have a rule that such information be declared in advance.

Runner-up Romeo's On Fire was desperately unlucky and would be a short price to turn the tables should they meet again. He fell out of the stalls and still had to make up a lot of ground over a furlong out and may well have won but for the fact that he had to be switched left towards the rail inside the final furlong. In the end he came home every strongly and only went down by a neck.Ebenholz ran well on groundone might suspect was quick enough. Held up in mid-division, he made good ground to pursue the leader inside the last and despite edging to his right and maybe rolling around a little bit on the quick ground, ran on quite well.

Brosna Cry dwelt a bit at the start and stayed on strongly from well back inside the last furlong and a half, and also an honourable mention for Absa Lutte. She was as slowly away as the eventual runner-up, got very little in the way of a run and was value for finishing a lot closer.

Well-backed favourite Cihangir never got into the race and was eased down inside the final furlong, while Hello Man was reported by rider Kevin Manning to have broken a blood vessel. [JO'H]
