Balakan again provedthat at his best he is a very tough and honest horse and was unlucky to be headed. He was at the head of a good clip, still had a couple of lengths turning in and when it seemed he would be swallowed up inside the final furlong he just kept battling backand was only headed on the line.
From 1lb out of the handicap Hassanali ran a big race, and it was somewhat of a surprise how well he handled this ground. Held up out the back, he came with a sustained effort from mid-division over the last furlong and a half and probably would have won with another 50 yards. He ran a bit above his mark and should be capable of winning a handicap of this grade on this evidence.
King Of Westphalia was backed down to a ridiculously short price. He has a couple of hard luck stories in his recent past, but this wasn't really one of them. Held up out the back, he only started to make any real ground well into the straight and came home well. He's not an easy horse to assess at this stage. [JOH]
