Top-weight Ragged Staff may have been a bit reluctant to go into the stalls but came home alright, reappearing quite quickly after winning at Roscommon on Monday. Racing handily, he made nice ground to get into contention in the last half-mile, staying on well inside the final furlong or so to lead before the sustained run the winner came with edged him out close home. He has no objection to fast ground and for the second time in a week nearly managed to carry a big impost to victory. He'll win a better grade of handicap on the evidence of the past week.
Kilshannig came into this race on the back of winning an average handicap at Dundalk and probably achieved more in finishing fourth here. He was keen earlyand it didn't really help him in the closing stages as he didn't quite get home having led early in the straight. He was outstayed rather than really failing to stay and another try at this trip should be a worthwhile exercise.
Queen Althea led ordisputed for most of the journey and stuck to her guns well when she was headed over a furlong out.
Nothing travelled more strongly than Cabin Point for most of the journey, although she was probably plenty keen enough. She was going like a winnerbefore the turn into the straight but just failed to get home. [JOH]
