However, with the help of Roger Quinlan, Arkendale ran out a comprehensive winner and perhaps won a shade cosily in the end. What was even more noticeable about this victory is that the winner had run at Clonmel just over 24 hours earlier, when running creditably to finish fourth in a similar contest.
Blue Express raced with more prominence than the winner but, after appearing to get caught for speed approaching the second-last flight, the runner-up came with what appeared to be a winning challenge at the last. However, he found no extra on the run-in against his staying-on rival.
Tubber Gael Holly put up another creditable effort after her recent win at Roscommon.
Blue Steel Boy was staying on well close home after being held up in the early stages.
