Having been fitted with blinkers for the first time, Arizona John was settled mid-division before creeping into contention as the field turned into the straight. Travelling extremely well on the outer of leader Award Ceremony, Arizona John hit the front over 1f out before having to hold off the challenge of the resilient runner-up inside the closing 150 yards. John Oxx's charge was breaking his maiden tag at the fourth time of asking.
Award Ceremony took up the running from Observation Post before the field had made the turn into the straight and, while he did have the majority of his rivals in trouble from 2f out, he always looked held once headed by the winner. This was another creditable effort from the runner-up, who looks capable of ending this losing sequence next time out.
Cothrom Na Feinne was one paced inside the final two furlongs, while fifth-placed The Emperor Nero ran an eye-catching race back in fifth, having travelled ominously well behind the leaders into the straight, and looks one to keep a note of when stepped up in trip.
