Despite having to be niggled atturning into the straight by Johnny Murtagh, Grand Ducal was hot on the heels of the leader Chariya and, after joining him 1f out, he responded to Murtagh by asserting in the closing stages. A smart debut from the winner who will have no difficulty in getting beyond 1m.
The runner-up Chariya travelled best and was still on the bridle as he led the field at the 2f marker, but had no answer to the winner inside the final furlong. Judged on this run, he shouldn't take too long in going one better.
Double Ex was staying on best of the rest after being held up in the early stages and is perhaps one of the beaten horses to take out of the race.
The Fugitive travelled well into the straight before failing to answer his rider's urgings inside the final furlong.
Disappointment of the race was the favourite Greannmhar, who appeared to be badly hampered twice during the early stages. It may be best to forget this run.
