Iffy held up in midfield, effort before 2 out, soon close up, driven and sustained run from last, led on line
Moon Star pulled hard, 2nd until led 6th, hard pressed by five rivals from 2 out, ran on well, just caught
Classic Role prominent, driven and every chance from 2 out until after last, no extra close home
Lord Baskerville raced keenly in lead, headed and not fluent 6th, still on heels of leaders 2 out, outpaced before last, switched left flat and finished strongly
Jazz Dance towards rear, ridden and effort after 3 out, on heels of leaders from next until jumped deliberately last, edged left and no extra
Gracechurch settled in midfield, effort 3 out, went 2nd before next, ridden and every chance until weakened last
Le Corvee behind, last and struggling when mistake 3 out
Desert Lover pulled hard in midfield until ridden after 5th, weakening when mistake next
Go Solo behind, ridden 4th, no chance from 6th
Pepporoni Pete pulled hard on outside, weakening when mistake 6th
IFFY had hinted at a return to winning ways after a lengthy absence when fourth here three weeks ago, and he settled better this time which enabled him to finish stronger and just get the decision on the nod. He is still relatively unexposed and should have further improvement in him.
Moon Star, dropped 3lb since running a modest fourth at Aintree last time and with his rider taking an extra 7lb off his back, did nothing wrong in second but is likely to go up a pound or two again after this effort.
Classic Role ran a cracking race on his first outing in over seven months, but the task for him now is to build on this, something he has failed to do in the past as he has managed just one win from 22 starts over jumps.
Jazz Dance, up 12lb for an easy win in lower grade at Southwell last time, would have appreciated a strong pace and might still have proved a big danger if he had pinged the last flight. But he was not quite right there, and could not pick up on the short run-in.
