Blandings Castle took keen hold and led briefly 2nd, close up until pecked badly 6th, not recover, mistake 3 out, 10 lengths 6th when blundered 2 out, finished 7th, placed 6th
Orfeo Conti took keen hold, went prominent 8th until driven before 2 out, little response, beaten well before last, finished 3rd, disqualified - weighed in light
GAELIC FLIGHT had not won a race since late in 2006, but has been lightly-raced since and his performance here confirmed that he retains all his ability. Trainer Jeremy Scott reported that, even though the horse had won over 3m in the past, he had not got home over 2m6f at Fontwell last time.
Pan The Man, who has won three times at Plumpton, showed himself just as effective on this track with a game effort in second. This was in fact a career best effortfrom the gelding, and he is evidently still on the upgrade.
Reasonably Blue was never a factor, while Blandings Castle was knocked back by a stumble at the sixth and his jumping lacked fluency from that point.
