Runner-up L'Oudon, who is rated 120 butwas giving the winner 8lb, was held up, but was hard ridden from two out and kept on without getting to the winner. He's another who seems to struggle in handicaps off his current mark.
Gondolin came into the race on a mark of 80, and is a maiden after 20 runs with only three places to his name. He could be the guide to the form, for after moving up down the far side, he led and was sent a couple of lengths clear going to two out, and though he hung left after the last, he finished a very respectable third. On the downside is the possibility that the handicapper could take the form at face value in which case he'll struggle in better-grade events.
These three were well clear of Flying Spirit, who dead-heated for fourth, and is clearly nothinglike the force of old.
