He showed that he is still on the upgrade with this follow-up success and, though he was always up with the pace, he had to work quite hard to subdue Nortonthorpe Lad. But he was well on top by the end, had his field well strung out behind, and this lightly-raced sort is almost certainly not finished with yet.
Nortonthorpe Lad, claimed out of Mick Easterby's yard after running third in a seller over this course and distance last month, looked to be travelling best of all turning for home but seemed to be outstayed by the winner. He generally ran in blinkers when with Easterby and it may be that he is better in the headgear but, though he finished well clear of the third, he may prove best over a slightly shorter trip.
Marcus Foley reported that Beau Coup had lost his action but returned sound.
Paddy Brennan reported that Madam Blaze had run flat.
