PAMS OAK did not shape like an obvious candidate for this when falling over hurdles last time after a long layoff. However, he was fairly treated on his winning form over fences back in 2006 and could not fail to win in the end. The trip provedno problem for him.
Graham Lee did really well to get Castlemore into second place, as he was pushing him along at a fairly early stage. He is not badly handicapped now and could find something similar during the summer.
That partnership inherited second place from Learning The Blues, who attempted a puissance-style jump at the last and got it all wrong. He does not look straightforward at all and the first-time visor did not completely work.
He shared that honour with Catch The Perk early, but the Lucinda Russell-trained horse seemed to lose interest once passed.
Professor Hegarty can usually be relied upon to travel well and find nothing. He did not disappoint here and went from going well to well beaten rounding the final bend.
Nick Junior was prominent for a while after his monster layoff but was pulled up with a circuit to go, while grand-old campaigner Croc An Oir sadly suffered a fatal injury.
