Red Granite in rear, driven 9th, went 2nd approaching 3 out, left well clear, eased run-in
Rathmulen led to 2nd, chased leaders, lost place 4 out, kept on to take remote 2nd approaching last
Michabo chased leaders, reminders and went 2nd 4 out, weakened and left modest 2nd next, 3rd when hit last
Cleverality led 2nd, headed 12th, soon lost place, behind when mistake 2 out
Explosive Fox held up, headway to lead 12th, 6 lengths clear when blundered and unseated rider 3 out
The Stickler chased leaders, lost place and blundered 10th, behind when pulled up before next
Rich Nomad held up, mistake and unseated rider 7th
Jason Maguire had been hard at work on Red Granite for some time – in fact, he had looked held down the back straight. The jockey's perseverance paid dividends, though, as he was rewarded with an unlikely-looking victory, which he does deserve after coming down at Market Rasen two runs ago.
Explosive Fox took up the running down the back straight on the final circuit and was about to win by a long way until fate intervened. He looked very sore after the race.
Michabo, wearing cheekpieces for the first time, does not look the easiest of rides and hindered his chances with some moderate jumping.
Cleverality pulled plenty hard enough early and took them along for a while. However, he was readily held once joined.
Gambled-on Rich Nomad did not get very far, while The Stickler went fairly well until hitting the tenth hard.
