Comments in running

Mountain Pride made virtually all, ridden over 1f out, stayed on well throughout final furlong

Diamond Yas chased leaders, went 2nd 3f out, kept on under pressure final 2f but no chance with winner final furlong

Mexican Venture in rear but in touch, ridden and headway over 2f out, kept on final furlong but never going pace to be competitive

Master Spy in touch, pushed along 3f out, hard driven from 2f out, stayed on same pace inside final furlong

Astrodonna held up in rear, headway over 2f out, soon chasing leaders, weakened final furlong

Howdigo in touch, ridden 3f out, weakened from 2f out

Naval Review in rear, some progress when not clear run over 2f out, switched left and ridden soon after, no response

Deo Valente pressed winner 2f, stayed 2nd to 3f out, weakened quickly 2f out

Analyis of the race

Just eight runners, but an interesting three-year-old handicap with one or two lightly raced sorts who look like they could go on from here. With five runs under his belt, MOUNTAIN PRIDE was one of the more experienced in the line-up but it looks as if there is plenty more to come from him. His rider dictated the race and the winner looked good value for the margin at the line. Both owner and trainer seemed surprised by the fact the winner did not stay 1m2f on his last two starts and he could be a major player in handicaps over 1m later in the year.

Diamond Yas, who raced prominently throughout, could not go with the winner late on, but this was a respectable effort on her toughest assignment. She is another who could go on to hold her own in better company.

The opposition looked a little too tough for Howdigo on his return after more than 200 days off. Naval Review looked one paced and was never able to pick up. Deo Valente got excited in the preliminaries and was too keen early on.
