WARRINGAH, only fourth when odds on for a maiden over this trip at Thirsk, was much improved here on the softer ground under a positive ride. Jumpedstraight out in front, he was a couple of lengths clear round the home bend, and while there were plenty in a challenging position up the straight he galloped on strongly to the line, with only the runner-up to worry about through the final furlong. A half-brother to Hi Calypso, who won this race last year, he will follow her route again and run next in Salisbury's Bibury Cup, which she also won. If he takes after her he will improve again over further later on, and he could easily be the type for something like the Melrose Handicap at York.
Inchwood, another making her handicap debut, probably appreciated the easy ground and emerged from the pack to give chase to the winner. She was always being held, but she showed more than enough for a similarrace in pulling clear of third-placed Tasheba, who was always well there but has already shown his appreciation of a longer trip.
Cape Colony, who was dropped in from his outside draw but then raced a bit keen in mid-division up the inner, did best of them, but having looked a possible danger three furlongs out he was well held through the closing stages.
Dubai Petal was keen in rear but kept on in her own time.
Abstract Colours also came from well back, making late progress for a remote sixth.
