BLUE SKY BASIN was well held on his reappearance over this trip at Haydock, failing to get in a blow after racing keenly under restraint but, with the noseband left off this time, he was allowed to bowl along and proved well suited by the much more positive tactics. Having helped force the pace through the early stages, he found plenty for pressure and saw off the challenge of the staying-on runner-up to eventually win quite convincingly.
The winner of a Polytrack maiden last year, his previous turf form suggesteda bit of give underfoot would not go amiss and he handled the easing ground well. He will be forced up in class once reassessed, but looks capable of progressing again when conditions are in his favour.
Just Like A Woman had been well held on her two previous starts this year, but she stepped up on those efforts with a creditable second. She tracked the eventual winner through for much of the way and kept on to the line once switched with her challenge.
Connor's Choice helped forcethe pace with Blue Sky Basin, but he weakened out of contention late on. The easing in the ground should not have been a problem, but this trip seemed to stretch his stamina.
Driven was never seen with a serious chance on this drop back from 1m2f and connections still seem to be finding their way with him.
Cape Rock offered some promise on his handicap debut after over six months off, keeping on from off the pace in a race in which very few got involved. [RW]
