TOURIST and Tatbeeq were separated by only 2lb on official ratings and the pair ran close to those marks with Tourist just beating Tatbeeq in the shadow of the post under a strong ride from William Buick. The winner has size and scope and is described as "still a baby" by trainer Barry Hills, so there is a strong chance he will prove better than the 75 rating he carried into this contest.
Tatbeeq has a consistent record and, although unlikely to prove much better than the level she set here, should be able to boost her paddock value by winning a small race at some point this season.
Robert Burns hinted at ability, just as he had on his debut, but even bigger hints came from Dawnhill and Ascot Lime.
Dawnhill was making a very belated racecourse debut having suffered injuries at two and three. That being the case, he was never going to be roughed up on fast ground first time out, but he did enough on the bridle, then during the little time he was off it, to suggest that the patience of connections could be rewarded.
He was thought good enough to contest the classy 7f conditions race at Doncaster's St Leger meeting, for which he started favourite, as he did on his three-year-old debut at this venue. He undoubtedly has ability, and possibly much more ability than we have seen so far, so handicaps should be his for the taking.
