Comments in running

Croeso Bach made all, edged left under pressure final furlong, all out

Thoughtsofstardom tracked leaders, went 2nd 2f out, pressed winner throughout final furlong, just held on for 2nd

Racing Stripes took keen hold, held up, headway on inside from over 1f out, challenging when short of room inside final furlong and switched right, edged right but ran on strongly, just failed to go 2nd, possibly unlucky

Briery Lane in rear and outpaced, never near to challenge,

Dancing Mystery with winner to 2f out, soon weakened

Peopleton Brook chased leaders until ridden and weakened 2f out

Clewer slowly away, always behind

Analyis of the race

A small field, but no shortage of interest. CROESO BACH had run only seven times in her life and had not been out for more than nine months, but two Bath seconds last year showed that she loves fast ground and has bags of speed. Having been jumped out in front and then joined by veteran Dancing Mystery, she looked in trouble when Thoughtsofstardom ranged upsides, but she kept battling and just held on, although it might have been a different story if she had not closed the door on the running-on Racing Stripes just inside the final furlong.

Thoughtsofstardom had a 6lb penalty for Monday's narrow Folkestone win but still looked to have a good chance in this weaker race. He travelled well again, but whereas at Folkestone he got plenty of cover and could be produced late, this time he got there too soon and saw a lot of daylight.

The first three were clear of Briery Lane and Peopleton Brook, whose stable continues badly out of form, and veteran Dancing Mystery.

Clewer, whose last run was over hurdles, was never going on her debut for a new stable.
