Shrewd Dude mid-division, ridden over 3f out, never on terms after
Mamichor tracked leader, led after 2f, headed over 2f out, soon beaten
Casablanca Minx slowly away, always behind
Coeur Courageux reared up leaving stalls, always behind and never going well
Knickyknackienoo mid-division, ridden over 3f out, soon beaten
Edge End took keen hold, led for 2f, weakened quickly over 3f out
The one-eyed MOUNTAIN PASS had ticks in the right boxes, as he was already a course winner who handles firm ground well, on top of which he had one of the best chances on the figures. Never too far away, he was pulled out for his effort inside the last 2f and took charge over a furlong out, although the runner-up kept him up to his work.
Karmei, third in a Bath handicap last time off 60, couldn't go the pace but came from well back to take third, just ahead of Bookish, the only three-year-old in the field and well in on the figures, but a possible non-stayer over this longer trip in the first-time blinkers, which got her running a bit keen.
George Baker reported that Coeur Courageux was never travelling.
