Onatopp prominent, outpaced over 2f out, stayed on inside final furlong
Myfrenchconnection in rear, headway on outside over 2f out, kept on, never near leaders
Tanforan slowly into stride, held up in rear, headway over 2f out, kept on, never near leaders
Sands Of Barra chased leaders, led briefly over 1f out, soon weakened
Provost slowly into stride, always in rear
Royal Storm led, headed over 1f out, weakened and eased inside final furlong
Motu held up in rear, never on terms
Northern Boy chased leaders, lost place over 1f out
This was a workaday handicap, and though SHOTLEY MAC is consistent - he had finished second on seven occasions - he came into the race still a maiden after 18 starts. It proved 19th time lucky, though. He raced in touch, led a furlong out and ran on well. Like most of these, he's pretty exposed and had already risen 22lb in the ratings despite failing to win.
Fiefdom hasn't the best of win records, and hadn't been in the best of form either, but this was a more encouraging effort for he kept on to take second.
Flying Bantam was last turning for home, but made up a lot of ground to finish fourth, with Ours, who has never won on turf, and didn't look entirely at ease on the ground, a never-dangerous fifth.
Royal Storm made the running, but faded and this was rather disappointing after his Folkestone win last week.
