Monsieur Reynard in touch in rear, switched left just over 2f out, and effort, driven to challenge 1f out, led final 100yds, eased final strides, just held on
Wise Melody close up, effort to lead over 1f out, urged along final furlong, headed final 100yds, kept on, just failed
Kalligal led, hanging left from halfway, headed over 1f out, outpaced final furlong
Barraland tracked leader to over 2f out, switched left soon after, not quicken over 1f out, faded
Quaroma tracked leaders, hemmed in against rail from 2f out, weakened final furlong
Mullein slowly into stride, held up in last, no progress when not clear run briefly over 1f out, weakened final furlong
Another Socket went left start, in touch in rear on outer, weakened well over 1f out
Kalligal set a strong pace and did well to hold third without threatening a first win.
MONSIEUR REYNARD has an awkward head carriage and was plenty keen enough early despite his rider steadying him at the start over this extra furlong. Pulled out sharply inside the last 2f to get running room on the midtrack outside of a bunching field, he picked up nicely and was going to win half a length until his rider eased in the last strides to make it close. He certainly saw out the 6f well to open up more options.
Barraland could not get the lead over this longer trip and failed to impress, but still needs more help from the handicapper.
Mullein was most disappointing, being slowly away and never able to get in a blow, being soon niggled along. Her form had been stacking up well and possibly she needs some more cut in the ground.
