And it was apt that the finish was fought out by the only two horses in the field who had previously tasted Group 3 success.
Having previously finished third in the Group 3 Ridgewood Pearl Stakes at the Curragh, CHEYENNE STAR showed the benefit of that outing to land this in impressive fashion.
Having been settled in mid-division,Seamie Heffernan had to come with his challenge out wide soon after turning into the straight but the five-year-old daughter of Mujahid responded to her jockeyís urgings to show a neat turn of foot soon after.
Having joined Age Of Chivalry just insidethe final furlong, Cheyenne Star got her head in front passing the 150 yards marker before extending her lead from there onwards.
This was the winner's fourth pattern-race success having landed the 2007 Group 3 Ridgewood Pearl Stakes and two Listed races since and she is certainly showing no signs of stopping her trend based on this performance.
Her trainer reported that a crack at the Group 1 Matron Stakes back at Leopardstown in September is the long-term target, with a trip to Goodwood for another Group 3 race on the cards before then.
Age Of Chivalry was the other horse in this race to have previously tasted group race success and she was stepping up to 7f here having landed the Ballyogun Stakes on her previous start.
Tracking the leaders under Michael Kinane, John Oxx's filly looked short of room when the pace quickened at the top of the straight, but she soon found room to hit the front over 1f out. She held every chance at this stage but had no answer to the finishing kickof the winner. This was still a fine effort from the runner-up, possibly a slight improvement on her recent course win, and she looks capable of adding another Pattern-race success later in the campaign.
Another of these who was doing her best work at the finish was Aidan O'Brien's Mystical Lady, who appeared to be hampered at the halfway stage before having her path blocked again up the straight. She was motoring home inside the final furlong and could possibly have troubled the first two home if enjoying a much clearer run.
The prominently ridden My Girl Sophie made her challenge turning into the straight and while she was soon under pressure, she kept on again close home to finish ahead of Aleagueoftheirown, who could benefit from more positive tactics next time out after being held up here.
The disappointment of this race was the sole English raider Royal Confidence, who represented 2006 winning trainer Barry Hills. She was competing against her own sex group having failed to enter calculations in the Jersey Stakes and previous to that, she had finished seventh behind Natagora in the Stan James 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket. She couldnever get involved here having travelled on the outside of the main group.
