WINSLEY HILL had been caught on the post here the previous month but came out on top in an eventful race this time, leading two out and holding on gamely, driven out. She will not find things easy under a double penalty now but is a fair novice and is reportedly to keep going this season with a view to running in the final of this series.
Grasscutter had been running well well until coming down three out on his hurdling debut and confirmed that promise here, slightly hampered three out but chasing the winner from after the next. He is clearly up to winning in modest company over hurdles.
The first two came well clear but that was largely due to a chapter of accidents in the straight, starting with the fall three out of Quinte Du Chatelet, who had made therunning from the off and was three lengths to the good at the time of his departure. He had been ridden at that stage, and the rider of the winner had looked around for dangers, but Quinte Du Chatelet was in the process of running well enough to suggest that he handles a firmish surface.
Alqaayid had been out of sorts on the Flat but showed a smidgeon on this jumping debut until hampered three out. He was in fifth place when departing 2 out. Five A Side and Wee Ziggy were left to fill the frame but it would not pay to get carried away with their efforts.
