Nicholls said: "The tacky ground found him out at Chepstow but he hasn't looked back since."
Cavallini had failed to fire on his only previous run over hurdles but this was an improved display. He translated his good all-weather form to jumping and was gradually gaining on the winner, though never able to get in a blow.
Sam Lord looked to be going happily enough running down the back but was suddenly in trouble on the bottom bend. He was getting plenty of weight from the three that beat him and this can only be construed as being disappointing, as he was going up and down on the run-in.
