Novestar chased leader, led over 5f out, kept on well final furlong
Black Falcon held up, headway 6f out, went 2nd over 2f out, soon ridden and no real impression
Yakimov held up in rear, headway on outside 5f out, soon chasing leaders, kept on same pace final 2f
Starcross Maid held up in rear, headway 5f out, chasing leaders over 3f out, one pace final 2f
Kanisorn in rear, reminders 7f out, kept on final 2f, never on terms
Rehearsal chased leaders, weakened over 2f out
High Command chased leaders, lost place over 2f out
Princely Ted led, headed over 5f out, weakened 3f out
Ice Lad mid-division, driven over 5f out, lost place 3f out
George Henson in rear, behind final 3f
Templet in rear, behind final 4f
Keepers Knight chased leaders, driven over 7f out, soon weakened and behind, tailed off 4f out, virtually pulled up
Goldsmeadow started slowly, detached in rear until pulled up over 7f out
But the second is a decent yardstick in this grade and NOVESTAR, the only three-year-old in the field, deserves plenty of credit for a career-best effort in defying his elders, leading from over 4f out and keeping on well. It is clear that this track, which puts the emphasis on stamina, suits him and as he is still unexposed at this trip he may have a little more improvement in him - though he will always be best when ridden on or close to the pace.
The consistent Black Falcon ran his usual sound race but not for the first time he found less than might have been expected after travelling well - his run of placed efforts rather than winning ones is no coincidence.
Starcross Maid had a stiff task at the weights and was not at all disgraced; she runs well here and may be back in a bit of form.
Kanisorn ran respectably back on the Flat, but neither Rehearsalnor High Command looks as good as he was.
