His goose had looked cooked as Red Wine cruised up from the rear in the straight, apparently full of running, but he has quirks and could not produce what might have been expected in the closing stages - he has four course wins to his credit and invariably runs well here but is on a mark which may require him to find more than he cares to.
Tcherina ran her best race of the year, leading to over a furlong out. She has got herself well handicapped and ought not to be hit too hard for this run, so is worth keeping a close eye on next time -she would have decent claims if taking up her entry in the apprentice race at York on Friday.
