Analyis of the race

A competitive handicap. Annemasse and Prince Of Light set a decent pace before dropping out to occupy two of the last three places, and the time was fractionally faster than that recorded by Blythe Knight in the Group 3 a race earlier. Course experience is a big advantage, and LITTLE WHITE LIE was a good second to Vitznau here a year ago over 7f. He had made a promising debut for John Jenkins when chasing home the smart Bushman at Sandown last week, and this good win pays Bushman a big compliment. Having been handy throughout and in front from over two furlongs out, they were gradually closing him down at the finish, but he always looked like holding on. It will be tough under a penalty in the Hunt Cup, though, and with Bankable looking a handicap snip, there is unlikely to be any hurry to back him at the 33-1 with William Hill, VCbet and Paddy Power.

Last year's winner Unshakable ran a blinder in second, especially as he was 3lb higher and lacked a previous race this time. His connections are eyeing an extremely valuable handicap at Sandown on Eclipse day, and he has a good record on the track.

Vainglory had ideal conditions and made a big effort on the outside. He was never going to get there, but this was another excellent run from the colt, who was dropped back in trip, as 1m2f is thought to stretch him.

The 2006 German 2,000 Guineas winner Royal Power shaped very well on just his second start for David Nicholls, as he was dropped right out but made good headway up the straight to get on to the heels of the placed horses. He was still running on when short of room entering the final furlong.

There was a gap back to ex-Irish Kingsdale Orion, who hasn't recovered his best form, and Mujood, who has had a busy time and was below form, having needed chasing along early on to get a position. Dream Lodge looked to have a decent chance, but he was never going well and trailed home in last.

*Ryan Moore reported that Dream Lodge lost his left fore shoe.

*Joe Fanning reported that Prince Of Light had no more to give.
