Eastern Hills in rear until headway on inside 3f out, switched left inside final 2f and soon led, driven out final furlong
Topazes tracked leaders, headway and ridden 2f out, soon not much room and hung right under pressure, ridden and went right again inside final furlong, stayed on to chase winner soon after but always readily held
Non Sucre led, ridden and headed inside final 2f, stayed on same pace final furlong
Magnitude in rear until headway on outside over 3f out, chased leaders and ridden inside final 2f, one pace approaching final furlong
Desert Clover chased leaders, ridden over 2f out, soon one pace, stayed on again close home
Amylee slowly into stride, soon recovered, chased leader over 2f out, weakened inside final furlong
Talk Of Saafend towards rear but in touch, headway when badly hampered inside final 2f, stayed on again inside final furlong, not recover
Errigal Lad in rear when hampered inside final 2f, not recover
Shamrock Lady reared stalls, slowly away, always behind
Blues Minor chased leader, ridden when badly hampered inside final 2f, soon beaten and eased
EASTERN HILLS, one of only two maidens in the race and bottom weight, raced among the backmarkers against the inside rail, and he was still there, held up, starting up the straight. Having closed on front-runner Non Sucre up the rail he had to be pulled around him for his effort, and in doing so he interfered with Blues Minor just inside the last two furlongs, although runner-up Topazes also looked to contribute to the problem. Once in front he was always holding on.
Topazes came here on a roll, but he was 18lb higher than when the winning spree started. He was coming across to his right as the winner was being pulled out to the left, and Blues Minor became the meat in the sandwich. Once into the clear he went right again, and he never quite had the pace to get there, although this was obviously another decent effort from his revised mark.
Desert Clover was keeping on again and was not disgraced, and nor was Amylee, although she had her chance and was beaten fair and square in the second-time blinkers.
More interesting was the running of Talk Of Saafend, who was badly hampered at the back of the field when looking for an opening just inside the last two furlongs, but was still closing at the finish even though his rider had pretty much accepted the situation with 100 yards or so still to go.
