She had won her only previous race on this surface and coped well enough with the step up in trip. The final of this series looks a logical target.
King Columbo was making his handicap and seasonal debut having been fifth in the Zetland Stakes after winning his maiden over this course and distance. He came through to lead halfway up the straight and battled on gamely, but was just caught. He deserves compensation and looks sure to pick up a good race, but he has to prove he is as effective on turf.
Mexican Venture was an eyecatcher, as he had a moderate draw and, after not getting a run, had to come around the outside but was finishing strongly.
The favourite, The Which Doctor, was shuffled back early and never got involved, while Emerald Crystal ran freely in the first-time blinkers but was on the retreat when done no favours by the winner inside the last furlong, which caused him to drop back quickly and take Regal Bird back with him. The latter had shown up for a long way but was also beaten at the time.
Last Of The Line did not run badly in the first-time blinkers but was forced to race wide throughout, while Mooted was again unruly beforehand and wasstruggling turning in before staying on again in the final furlong.
