Safari Sundowner settled in midfield, pushed along and struggling halfway, taken to outer and rapid progress under pressure over 2f out to lead over 1f out, stayed on
Pinch Of Salt held up in rear, progress halfway into midfield, headway on outer to lead well over 1f out, soon headed and driven, one pace
Kayak chased leader 4f, close up 2f out, driven to chase leading pair over 1f out, kept on
Beauchamp Viceroy held up well in rear, took closer order over 2f out, progress and shaken up just over 1f out, running on and looked likely to take 3rd when eased last 75yds
Basra well in rear, driven over 2f out, stayed on from over 1f out, not pace to trouble leaders
Spring City dwelt, mostly in last pair, shaken up over 1f out, stayed on final furlong, no chance of reaching leaders
Tropical Strait chased leaders, ridden 3f out and losing place, no real headway after
Mataram tracked leading trio, lost place 2f out, soon beaten
Viva Vettori led at generous pace, headed well over 1f out and immediately weakened rapidly
Rapid City always in rear, ridden and struggling over 3f out, soon behind, tailed off
Samarinda dwelt, rushed up to go prominent after 2f, chased leader 6f out to over 2f out, weakening rapidly when hampered well over 1f out, eased and tailed off
Pinch Of Salt ranged up alongside the leader Viva Vettori turning for home looking all over the winner, but he could not find the extra gear when challenged. He has a good record on this track but both his wins here were over further and he may need to return to 1m4f.
Kayak, a multiple winner in South Africa, was making his Polytrack debut and ran much better than on his first outing here, while Beauchamp Viceroy, having his first try here, had gained all his wins on a similar surface at Wolverhampton and this was a welcome return to something like his old form, as he has not had much racing in the last two years.
Tropical Strait gained both his previous wins over further but was outpaced after trying to race prominently on this drop back in trip and is likely to step up in distance next time.
Kerrin McEvoy reported that Spring City missed the break.
Micky Fenton reported that Samarinda had no more to give.
