These three-year-olds had achieved little, hence their eligibility for a 46-55 handicap and the fact that three of the 13 were being tried in blinkers or visor for the first time.

ONE CALLED ALICE was one of the few who had solid form behind her, albeit in modest company, but she had looked hard to win with, having finished in the frame in all bar two of her previous 13 outings but still a maiden. She appeared less than straightforward again here, making her customary slow start and coming on and off the bridle through the race, but things panned out well for her with the eventual runner-up setting a good target in the straight and she got up near the finish. She should not be hit too hard by the handicapper for this and has the ability to win more races but will again need finesse from the saddle and for things to go her way.

First-time blinkers appeared to help Scruffy Skip, who had cut little ice in a seller on his previous start but led two furlongs out until near the finish here.

Mujahope ran better than he had on his two previous outings on turf, visored for the first time.

Returning to Fibresand seemed to help Magical Song, who ran better than of late; keeping on encouragingly in the final furlong without threatening the principals. He is well worth keeping an eye on when returned to this track, particularly if upped in trip.

Aquarian Dancer did not run to the best of her turf form on her Southwell debut.
