Analyis of the race

A race to savour and one that should have a bearing on two of the Royal Ascot two-year-old races, with the filly DANEHILL DESTINY upsetting the colt Prolific after the latter was backed as if defeat was out of the question. Danehill Destiny had displayed a smart turn of foot when scoring on her Newmarket debut and confirmed with this commendable effort that she is the one they all have to beat in the Queen Mary. A tad keen in the early stages but clearly in command after two furlongs, Ryan Moore's mount responded well to her jockey's urgings and, with the rail to assist, was never going to be outdone in the final furlong. Trainer William Haggas said: "We came here to find out whether she had the speed for the Queen Mary and she quite obviously has."

Prolific towed them along early but never looked as comfortable as the winner. The ground might not have played to his strengths, but in his defence he stayed on well to make Danehill Destiny fight for her spoils. Connections are keen to remain at the minimum when going to the royal meeting and will decide closer to the time whether it will be the Norfolk or the Windsor Castle, into which he would go unpenalised.
